( Self-Paced – Virtual)

Establish Professional Expertise with the Green building and Sustainability Practitioner pathway From GreenCard Certification System. Understand Green Buildings. Evaluate Performance. Support Better Projects.

GBSP is designed for professionals who have already completed substantial sustainability, construction, green building or related professional learning. Rather than repeating foundational learning, the pathway brings together knowledge already developed across areas such as: Green building, Sustainable construction, Energy and water efficiency, Sustainable materials, Embodied carbon, Climate resilience, Indoor environmental quality, Building performance, Sustainability certification, Project assessment, and Professional practice.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Green Building and Sustainability Practitioner credential is designed for professionals who want to establish applied professional competence in sustainable building practice.

Individual certifications typically develop competence within defined technical areas. GBSP brings those competencies together and assesses whether the professional can interpret sustainability requirements, assess building performance, review technical evidence and support sustainable building decisions across the project lifecycle.

The objective is to demonstrate that the professional can operate across multiple green building and sustainability domains rather than only within one technical specialisation.

The Green building and Sustainability Professional is a dedicated online training module structured in a professional manner to master how sustainability requirements are applied to actual projects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the professional pathway, participants will be able to:

  • Apply green building and sustainable construction principles to project planning, design, construction, commissioning and operation.
  • Interpret project sustainability objectives, baselines, targets and measurable performance indicators.
  • Review energy, water, materials, carbon, indoor environmental quality and climate resilience considerations within building projects.
  • Assess building sustainability information and identify areas requiring improvement.
  • Interpret green building certification requirements and translate them into practical project responsibilities.
  • Review sustainability evidence including drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, reports and performance records.
  • Identify documentation gaps and support project certification readiness.

FAQs

Green Building and Sustainability Practitioner (GBSP)

The Green Building and Sustainability Practitioner (GBSP) is an advanced professional certification pathway for individuals who have already completed qualifying professional learning and want to demonstrate broader competence in sustainable building and green building practice. It builds on knowledge developed through previous certifications and focuses on applying that knowledge across sustainable building strategy, building performance, resource efficiency, carbon, resilience, certification and project assessment.

GBSP is primarily a professional certification pathway rather than an entry-level green building course. Eligible candidates participate in focused professional integration modules before completing the prescribed professional examination.

Applicants must have completed eligible sustainability, green building, construction or related professional certifications carrying a:

Minimum Combined Total of 40 GreenCard CPD Points. Applications are reviewed before admission to the pathway.

Eligibility is based primarily on your combined qualifying CPD Points. If one eligible professional certification and other approved learning together provide at least 40 CPD Points, your application may proceed to eligibility review. If your existing learning totals less than 40 CPD Points, you will need to complete additional eligible professional learning before proceeding to the GBSP examination.

Not necessarily. The purpose of GBSP is to bring together relevant professional competence that can be applied to sustainable buildings.

Eligible learning may cover areas such as: Sustainability, Environmental management, Carbon accounting, Energy, Climate change, Sustainable construction, Building performance, Green building Materials, ESG, Climate finance, and other approved related professional areas. Your combination of certifications must satisfy the approved 40 CPD Point eligibility requirement.

No. The GBSP pathway includes structured tutor-led professional integration sessions. The professional integration sessions cover areas including: Sustainable Building Strategy and Performance Planning, Technical Green Building Performance Assessment, Green Building Certification, Evidence and Project Readiness, Integrated Green Building Practitioner Case and Professional Practice. These sessions are designed to connect knowledge acquired through previous certifications and apply it within practical building and construction environments.

The Green Building and Sustainability Practitioner (GBSP) is an advanced professional credential designed for candidates who have already developed a foundation in sustainability and related professional learning.

To be eligible to take the GBSP professional examination, you must first have completed a combination of eligible courses or certifications carrying a minimum total of: 40 CPD Points

The 40 CPD Points do not have to come from one programme. You can combine different eligible programmes until you reach the required minimum.

For example:

  • Certified Carbon Accounting Expert (CCAE) + Certified Climate Finance and Investment Expert (CCFIE) = 40 CPD Points. The candidate has reached the minimum requirement and is therefore eligible to proceed to the GBSP certification stage.
  • Licensed ESG Manager = 35 CPD Points. The candidate has not yet reached the minimum 40 CPD Points. Adding an eligible programme carrying at least another 5 CPD Points would bring the candidate to or above the required threshold.

The pathway therefore works as follows:

No. There is no single compulsory combination. What matters is that your eligible professional learning provides a combined minimum of 40 CPD Points before you proceed to the GBSP professional examination.

If your eligible certified learning already totals 40 CPD Points or more, you do not need to complete additional courses simply to meet the GBSP entry requirement. You may proceed to the GBSP certification pathway, subject to verification of your eligibility.

You will need to complete one or more additional eligible programmes until your combined total reaches at least 40 CPD Points.

No. GBSP is designed to build on your existing knowledge rather than repeat complete courses you have already undertaken. The focus is on: Integration, Application, Building assessment, Evidence review, Professional judgement, and Green building practice.

Yes. Candidates must complete the GBSP professional examination and satisfy all applicable certification requirements before the GBSP credential is awarded.

Successful completion of the GBSP professional certification pathway carries: 35 GreenCard CPD Points. These are additional to the minimum 40 CPD Points required for entry. The distinction is:
40 CPD Points = Eligibility Requirement.
35 CPD Points = Awarded Upon Successful Completion of the GBSP Pathway

Successful candidates are awarded the Green Building and Sustainability Practitioner (GBSP) professional credential issued by GreenCard Certification International.

No. CPG™, LEED, EDGE and DGNB are used within the pathway as professional benchmark systems. GBSP does not confer credentials, licences or professional designations issued under LEED, EDGE or DGNB.

Complete the GBSP application form and provide details of your existing professional certifications and CPD Points. Your eligibility will be reviewed before you proceed to the next stage of the certification pathway.
