Nigerian Green Building Policy and Investment Roundtable 2026

GreenCard Certification International convened the Nigerian Green Building Policy and Investment Roundtable 2026 on Friday, 5th June 2026, at the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.

The Roundtable was hosted by the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, University of Lagos, and brought together founding partners, public sector institutions, academic partners, professional bodies, housing finance stakeholders, green building organizations, sustainability practitioners, and technical institutions to advance the adoption pathway for the Construction Project GreenCard, CPG™ rating tool for Nigeria’s built environment.

This engagement  formed part of GreenCard Certification International’s structured stakeholder process for the development, review, institutional participation, and market readiness of the CPG™ rating tool ahead of its formal launch.

The Roundtable created a focused platform for institutional dialogue on green building standards, policy alignment, regulatory readiness, professional capacity, investment linkage, certification governance, audit pathways, affordability, accessibility, and state level implementation. This provided an opportunity to present the CPG™ rating tool structure, assessment categories, certification process, founding partner categories, institutional roles, advisory participation options, and the CPG™ Accredited Professional, CPG™ AP, training pathway.

Through the engagement, stakeholders examined how a national green building rating framework can be integrated into Nigeria’s construction market, planning systems, professional practice, housing delivery, sustainability reporting, and project certification processes.

We were pleased to receive institutional participation and goodwill messages from the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, University of Lagos, Lagos State Government, Family Homes Fund Ltd, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Green Building Council of Nigeria, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adamawa Urban and Regional Planning Board, Construct Green Consult, Sustainable Green Environment Initiative, and other invited stakeholders.

The level of institutional participation brought policy, finance, professional practice, academia, technical advisory, planning, research, and sustainability perspectives into one room, thus providing a strong engagement base for discussing the practical conditions required to support a credible green building rating system in Nigeria.

During the event, stakeholder contributions were collated through a working document, allowing participating institutions and representatives to provide structured inputs toward the consolidation of the CPG™ rating tool.

The working session captured perspectives on institutional adoption, democratization, affordability, accessibility, governance, adoption barriers, local as well as state level integration, audit implementation, professional readiness, and market acceptance.

Following the Roundtable, GreenCard Certification International has continued to receive and collate additional stakeholder contributions from participants who engaged during the working session, as well as invited stakeholders submitting post event inputs.

These contributions will support the next phase of tool refinement, partner documentation, audit structure development, and preparations toward the formal launch of the CPG™ rating tool in the coming months.

CPG™ Accredited Professional Pathway

As discussed during the Roundtable, indication of interest is now open for the CPG™ Accredited Professional, CPG™ AP, training pathway.

The CPG™ AP pathway is designed for professionals, institutional nominees, technical officers, consultants, and built environment practitioners who intend to understand, apply, support, and advise on the use of the CPG™ rating tool across construction projects.

Institutions may nominate representatives, while individual professionals may also indicate interest directly through the official CPG™ AP registration link here: (insert link).

Finally, we immensely appreciate all institutions, partners, representatives, and professionals who participated in the Roundtable and contributed to the ongoing development of the Construction Project GreenCard, CPG™ rating tool for Nigeria’s built environment.
